Former President, Brenda Martin in Russell. Brenda has presented national workshops on Social Media, Increasing Graduation Rates, Parenting Advocacy and was the parent panelist on NBC's EDUCATION NATION's "Stepping Up: The Power of a Parent Advocate" in New York for Parenting Magazine. She was hand picked as a National PTA Social Media Ambassador in 2012 and is currently serving on the Teacher Effectiveness Steering Committee with the Education Commissioner, Dr. Holliday and other leaders. She is the former president of the NE Kentucky Association for Gifted Education, has also served on SBDM, created and led the summer "Camp Revamp" for STEM and an after school Science and Technology (Sci-Tech) club. Brenda is a Commonwealth of Institute for Parent Leadership (CIPL) fellow and twice served as a vice-president for Russell Primary School. She served as Youth Ministry Director at their church; Chaired the Ashland Human Rights Commission and has toured most schools in our area, storytelling Black History or sharing Kwanzaa. She obtained her MBA from Morehead State University. Brenda is Parenting Magazine's Mom Congress-Kentucky delegate and the recipient of KinderCare's national Education Achievement Award! She has also served as the president and vice-president of various local PTAs. Brenda understands more than ever, why Parent Engagement and Volunteerism is so important and necessary to share the load. It should not be left to just the teachers or few volunteers and a couple officers to do what we all say is important. "Hang in there and be patient with one another," she advises other leaders.
